Raising Mighty Young People

It's about building resilience

Children should be exploring nature, building with their hands, learning by doing. But the real world can be hard, dangerous, and messy. It’s so much easier for everyone if they plug in. Which is why kids staring at screens has become ubiquitous. Not just at home, but everywhere.

At the same time, youth depression and anxiety have skyrocketed. Sure it's complicated, but constant entertainment, stimulation, and social comparison cannot be healthy, especially for developing minds.

That’s why we’re on a mission to challenge young people to do mighty things by equipping families with the resources they need to learn, build, and explore the real world together.

It won’t always be fun. But that’s ok. Hardship builds resilience. Learning new skills builds independence. And together those things lead to the satisfaction of accomplishment. If you’re ready to take on a family lifestyle that embraces challenges, you’re in the right place.
“Far better it is to dare mighty things, to win glorious triumphs, even though checkered by failure, than to take rank with those poor spirits who neither enjoy much nor suffer much, because they live in the gray twilight that knows neither victory nor defeat.”
― Theodore Roosevelt, 1899, Strenuous Life

Traditional family values

God designed traditional families as the nucleus of society. We need to support them now more than ever.

“I wish to preach, not the doctrine of ignoble ease, but the doctrine of the strenuous life, the life of toil and effort, of labor and strife; to preach that highest form of success which comes, not to the man who desires mere easy peace, but to the man who does not shrink from danger, from hardship, or from bitter toil, and who out of these wins the splendid ultimate triumph.”
― Theodore Roosevelt, 1899, Strenuous Life

A timeless challenge

In the spring of 1899, Theodore Roosevelt, then a war hero and young Governor, stood before an audience in Chicago and preached what became known as the Strenuous Life. A lifestyle that rejects idle comfort and embraces physical, mental, and spiritual challenges to achieve mighty things.

It was a message that Teddy exemplified throughout his life. As an avid reader, writer, rancher, soldier, politician, and explorer, he demonstrated an unusual combination of physical and intellectual rigor.

Imagine a politician telling an audience to do hard things – then modeling that behavior. Times have changed. But politics aside, Teddy’s challenge is one we could all benefit from. Modern conveniences have their advantages, but it is a sad existence that makes comfort its aim. For those who aspire to more, the strenuous life remains relevant as ever.
